The "Big M" in Platteville
The Platte Mound is the world's largest 'M." The Platteville Mound is one mile long and about one-half mile wide, 150 feet high,
It is maintained by he University of Wisconsin-Platteville Society of Automotive Engineers. The "M" stands for "Miners" of the Wisconsin Institute of Technology.
The engineers at the Wisconsin Mining School finished construction of the "M" on May 19, 1937.
The "M" was featured in an issue of Life Magazine on May 23, 1949, and by MTV in 1987.
